Identifying the Problem
Morris & Spottiswood were looking to reduce hand injuries and improve hand safety across all projects, sites, workforce and supply chain. They wanted to implement a hand protection policy, and introduce a minimum cut standard that reflected the nature of the work carried out and increase protection threshold.

Finding the Solution
STALSEN worked with Morris & Spottiswood to implement a hand protection policy that could be rolled out to their own directly employed trades as well as their supply chain.
The key elements of this hand protection policy were that it had to be simple to follow, and the specified gloves needed to work for all trades on all sites, from joiners and painters to mechanical and electrical works.
We presented Morris & Spottiswood with a range of just 4 gloves, plus lower arm protection, that all complied with a minimum protection threshold of index E while also being ultra-lightweight and comfortable to wear, and suited to all activities on site.
When trialled against other glove brands, the STALSEN hand protection evidently became the gloves of choice for the wearers.
To reinforce the introduction of a hand protection policy, we also implemented the #GLOVEYOURHANDS™ programme. Designed to put hand safety in the spotlight, the programme delivers wearer-focused educational support materials to address the ‘why‘ and encourage compliance to the hand safety policy.
Delivering the Outcome
Since implementation, Morris & Spottiswood have proved the power of a simple defined hand protection policy, seeing 70% hand injury reduction in the first year, across their direct employees and supply chain.
